About the GOAT Coalition

Organisational Memo
How our group is structured
Goat Coalition (GC) is a collective of six organisations from Monash University. Each member organisation has a unique mission upheld by an elected representative at GC meetings.

To maintain order and unity, there are two distinct positions in the coalition: the spokesperson who acts as the public face of GC and the chairperson who chairs and arranges meetings. These office-holders are voted in by the representatives on an annual basis.

How often our group meets
GC meets at a minimum of once per week, on Thursdays at 5pm for one hour. These follow a particular agenda, prepared and distributed by the chairperson.

How we build consensus within our group
Lying at the root of GC’s unifying character is its simple and precise decision-making process.
By way of vote, questions relating to mission, vision or values require unanimity while those relating to strategy and tactics can be determined via a â…” majority. Each representative is entitled to one vote.
Discussed matters are summarised by the chairperson at the conclusion of every meeting together with an action plan. These are subsequently passed on by representatives to their respective organisations, cultivating consensus and understanding in each member of GC.

Our shared interests as a group
Goat Coalition strives to create sustainable human happiness by pushing for regulatory change and aims to reduce the power certain systemic realities hold over individuals. All of GC’s subgroups contribute to this mission in distinct ways.

Our shared goals and interests include:
Integrity
Contributing towards a pure and just political system
Advocacy
Mobilising the passionate populace
Support
Supporting, motivating and encouraging each other
Scale
Scaling worthy initiatives that align with our mission

How we overcome conflicts of interest with relevant stakeholders
To overcome conflicts of interest, GC is in constant communication with its stakeholders. Whether that means dissemination of internal processes or direct conversation, no stakeholder need be excluded from understanding.

Additionally, GC aims to remain faithful to its mission. By preserving its core goals, the coalition keeps its purpose and intentions clear to its stakeholders and is capable of evolving them if need be over time. As such, conflicts of interest are addressed head on and are resolved either by the convergence to or evolution of GC’s mission.
Other identifying elements which make our group a strong launchpad for advocacy action compared to others.
GC unites citizen-groups whose interests all coalesce around sustainable human happiness. As a microcosmic replica of industry coordination and cooperation, GC gathers insights from unique sectors to support the growth of each individual organisation, as well as itself. By centralising an agglomeration of networks, Goat Coalition strengthens its position as a launchpad for advocacy action and provides its constituents with resources better than they themselves could access.
