Advocates for Mental Health Access
Our advocacy group exists to improve mental health services for Australians and decrease stigma around seeing a psychologist. We demand a policy change that would see the annual number of psychological appointments available for Medicare rebate change from 10 to 18. This is the number that was originally introduced under the Better Access initiative.

The Mental Health Commission of Australia recognises that almost 50% of Australians aged 16 and over will experience mental illness at some point in their lives. On the 7th of August 2020, 10 additional sessions were added to the Medicare Benefits Schedule. These are only valid until the 31st of March 2021.

Does mental health only matter to the government during the pandemic? What happens to those most in need of help in April?

It's time to normalise visits to the psychologist. It's time to realise that neglect of one's mental state has detrimental effects in all areas of life. It's time to understand that 10 is not enough.
